🚨 NHS Pay Update: Your Voice Matters! 🚨
The government has imposed a 3.6% pay rise for NHS staff in England, just 0.1% above inflation, but here’s what else you need to know:
🔴 No Negotiations: This is not an offer for you to accept or reject—there were no talks with unions, and it’s being enforced without agreement.
🔴 What We Know: We don’t have all the details yet. We’re working hard to clarify when the pay rise and backpay will be issued, but it seems likely to be August 2025, backdated to April 2025.
🔴 For Some, It’s Less: If you received an interim pay rise in April 2025 (Band 2 & entry-level Band 3), your total increase will still only be 3.6%, despite the smaller April payment being part of the minimum wage law, not a fair negotiation.
🔴 The Unfair Comparison: While NHS staff in England are facing 0.1% above inflation, NHS workers in Scotland have secured a better deal. All health unions in Scotland, including UNISON, have overwhelmingly voted to accept an above-inflation 2-year pay offer:
- 4.25% this year
- 3.75% in 2026/27
- A further guarantee that NHS staff in Scotland will receive 1% above CPI if inflation rises.
It’s clear that NHS staff in Scotland are being treated better. Why are NHS staff in England being offered so little?
🔴 The Doctor’s Deal: You may have heard that doctors in England have been awarded 4% plus £750 after their previous 2-year 22% settlement. While they get this, NHS staff—who are integral to the success of the NHS as one team—are only getting 0.1% above inflation. This highlights the disparity in how NHS workers are being valued.
🔴 The Bigger Issue: The NHS pay structure is still broken. The government promised to address pay issues in 2025/26, but they’ve failed to act. We still need fair negotiations to address these issues, not broken promises.
🔴 What’s Next: This pay rise is imposed, so there’s no offer to accept or reject. We need to decide how to react. The pay rise is only 0.1% above inflation—far from enough to keep up with rising living costs.
