Update on the Foundation Living Wage
At a recent Executive Team meeting, EMAS reviewed its position as a Real Living Wage Foundation employer.
EMAS originally signed up to the scheme in 2015, following a successful proposal from UNISON. Unfortunately, the financial landscape has changed in recent years and ensuring that pay arrangements are aligned with national NHS Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions has become a key consideration for EMAS.
The Executive Team has decided that EMAS will no longer be able to continue as an accredited Real Living Wage Foundation employer.
UNISON is disappointed, particularly as no formal prior notice was given, and we urge the Trust to reconsider this decision. This change directly affects our lowest-paid colleagues at a time when many are struggling with rising living costs, including inflation, food prices, and the prospect of a winter with increased energy bills.
We recognise and commend EMAS for being part of the Real Living Wage Foundation for the past nine years. While we are saddened to see this come to an end, we cannot support the decision to withdraw from the scheme.
UNISON remains committed to fighting for fair pay. Nationally, we will continue campaigning for pay talks that deliver proper, above-inflation increases for every NHS worker.
Locally, we will continue our Put Our Banding Right campaign, including calling on EMAS to review all Band 2 roles over the next 12 months, ensuring staff are fairly recognised and properly paid for the work they do.
We want every member to know: UNISON will continue standing up for you, your pay, and the value of the vital work you do.
