UNISON Statement on EMAS Rota Consultations

Dear Members,

Yesterday the A&E rota consultation has started. We recognise that this is a significant change, and we fully understand that many of you may feel concerned or unsettled in the early stages.

Our priority throughout this process is to ensure your voice is heard. We strongly encourage every member to read the consultation document carefully, this will help you give informed feedback and raise any questions or concerns.

Over the first week following the launch, we will be taking time to listen to your views, gather feedback, and reflect on what you tell us. It’s really important that we have a clear sense of how the majority of members feel before UNISON responds collectively to the Trust. We also want to reassure you that we will not make any knee-jerk reactions — our approach will be measured and considered.

We will be looking at:

  • Feedback from different groups to identify where there may be collective issues.
  • Individual issues where raised, to make sure individual concerns are addressed.

Please note:

  • It is mandatory that all staff with flexible working arrangements have a one-to-one meeting with a manager from the Trust as part of this process.
  • Any flexible working agreements must be mutually agreed between the member and management.
  • Local TU Reps will be available during the consultation to support members with one-to-ones and station meetings.
  • Your reps are on hand to listen, provide support, and answer questions where possible throughout this period.

Times of change like this highlight the importance of being part of a union. Collective strength gives us a clear, united voice to ensure members are represented fairly and their concerns are heard.

If you have any concerns or need support at any point, please speak to your local rep or get in touch with us directly at enquiries@unisonemas.org.uk. Your feedback matters — it will shape how we respond together.
